The Harsh Reality of “Information Overload”: Sharing Too Much Information is a Dangerous Thing

Sadly, we live in an insidious world that poses a substantial, serious risk of sharing too much information, (especially personal information) on the online, shadowy world of the Internet- typically on social media platforms where the post can be viewed by absolutely anyone in the general public. Sharing too much information of one’s private life online not only wilfully robs a person of his/her privacy, but it is also completely unnecessary. Such posts garner undue attention on totally frivolous and superfluous matters, that need NOT have been shared publicly in the first place. Often, such public posts foster vanity, envy, jealousy, the ‘evil eye’ and a host of other negative emotions from people watching such ‘freely available for public viewership’ information online. People who often post ‘selfies’ of themselves attract a lot of unwanted attention – the viewers study the home in the background of the picture – they can easily gain a quick gist of what a person wears; where he/she goes; their likes and desires etc.
Why would anyone want to share so much personal information with people who they do not know at all? With total strangers – does that make any sense? Think about it. Why would one want to share such personal information even with one’s acquaintances, who one barely knows, at the end of the day? Such behaviour is totally illogical and unreasonable, to say the least. As a matter of fact, it is downright dangerous and can pose a grave risk to one’s safety, sanity and well-being. It can be harmful, with very serious, lasting consequences. One should not take the matter lightly at all.
In the treacherous world that we live in, “ignorance is NOT bliss” and “too much information is a dangerous thing.” Believe it or not, the distribution of too much information on various online platforms poses a very real danger and a significant threat to one’s safety and security – whether it be the massive online world of the internet, or the offline world of our day-to-day lives on this planet. This excessive sharing of undue information and data is what is called an Information Overload – the great burden of too much, unnecessary information shared extensively in the online world for anyone, ‘out there’ interested to view it. Then, these viewers will surreptitiously use and misuse this data, to satisfy their own dark, hidden ulterior motives. This fact is what makes such activity extremely dangerous when it falls into the wrong hands.
There are many, many examples of such Information Overload but we will not go into any detail about each of these cases. It is not the purpose of this blog post to cite a list of these examples – but rather to emphasise the clear risk, the very real threat and the grave menace to one’s safety and security involved in such thoughtless actions.

While browsing YouTube the other day, I was shocked to chance upon seeing one of those typical video “shorts” – a short video reel, of a young girl, barely 6-7 years old at the most, ‘dancing’ in a typically vulgar way, so as to garner the attention of any casual viewer – her ‘moves’ seemed designed to immediately capture one’s attention, in a perverse kind of way. These calculated moves seemed particularly preplanned and designed to capture the wrong type of attention, as a matter of fact – typically, it was attention-seeking behaviour that is, more than likely, to catch the eye of all manner of perverts and lurking paedophiles who are constantly prowling the internet, like shadowy predators, with the sole purpose of catching sight of exactly such indecent videos, and to later use, misuse and exploit, extensively and perversely, such a blatant show of shamelessness. One would never believe that this was the act of a child.
One could not, strictly speaking, call the young girl’s actions as dancing – it was all about various, synchronised moves of gliding and swaying – it was consciously more about depicting hip thrusts, the twirling of the hips like a professional belly dancer, and the depiction of provocative, deep upper torso thrusts. Each calculated move of the child had some essence of a sexual innuendo in it, whether purposely intended or not. This sexualised the whole act of this dance. The entire gliding movement made the child look like a shy, young, prepubescent woman, who has just reached the threshold of adulthood. Can you see how preposterous this whole scenario is? What good purpose can it possibly serve? It becomes the first fodder of cruel gossip and fuels the rumour mill with all sorts of negative, derogatory comments, directed at the child herself, and at her indifferent, thoughtless parents who have encouraged such actions.
While one watches, almost mesmerised, it no longer matters that the child has a sweet face – her actions, so obviously adult-like, take away immediately from any innocence associated with the naïveté of such a young girl. Quite obviously someone must have taught her such moves, or she had imbibed them herself from her own exposure to social media, especially by watching similar social media videos, and possibly by watching Bollywood movies where such a manner of vulgar dancing is not only expected by the public as the general norm of the day, but it is, in fact, considered ‘normal,’ if the film is to become a box-office hit of instant success.
In contemporary times, these sort of videos have become viral on social media, posted purposely by an adult, with a public viewership possibility – more often than not. Such videos have become increasingly common and notorious- allow me to add. Such videos bring out the perverse side in human nature and that is nothing short of disgusting. It is shameful and disgraceful – to say the least, especially on the part of the adult- most likely, it is the parents themselves who encourage such behaviour from their child, just for the sake of furthering their own fame and fortune – at the cost of the innocence of their child. People earn a good amount of money from being YouTubers.
When an adult actively encourages such wrongful behaviour, it gives the child the false impression that such behaviour is normal and acceptable in society, when, in all reality, it is highly irregular and absolutely unacceptable. Who knows where such videos land up? They go across the globe, in a matter of a few seconds, via WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Who knows if such videos land up in the evil throes of the Dark Web or not? The Dark Web is where all manner of wickedness thrives, starting from all manner of pornography- the most rampant, unfortunately, being child pornography. Who knows which predators, from God knows which ‘underground’ chat rooms, are watching such videos avidly and getting their cheap, sexual thrills from it?
Do you still think that the situation is not serious? Think again. It’s only the dark beginning of how children are secretly watched, stalked and later abducted- often in plain sight – never to be seen again. The predator does what he will with the child, after the abduction- a brutal rape and murder is sure to follow – sooner rather than later. However, this is not always the fate of such abducted children – the vast majority end up being the unwilling victims of human trafficking and the illicit sex trade. Their lives become a never-ending, living hell.

Another poignant example of information overload: why would a parent want their young daughter to participate in a beauty pageant – of all the things in the world? All parents consider their children beautiful, but what of it? Does one really need to make a spectacle of it? Such acts teach children the wrong values and principles in life – they become vain, retain a false sense of ego and pride – it teaches them vanity, jealousy, and they might turn venomous and vindictive if they do not win the beauty contest. Is this what one expects to see in a child? Of course not! Instead of teaching the child the importance of Beauty that shines from within a pure and good soul, such ludicrous activities are rampantly being encouraged. The parents are wholly to blame here – there is no way around it.
Children who participate in such beauty pageants behave like adults – their eyes and behaviour betray a certain precocious essence that goes well beyond their actual age. A layer of heavy makeup; flashy painted nails, a revealing, garish outfit that shows more the bare skin of her shapely legs, than actually covers them; pouty, painted lips, provocative looks, a knowing wink of open flirtation, and gently swaying hips hardly help matters, in this regard. It is all about attention-seeking behaviour and the attainment of unwanted attention from any viewer, especially that of a perverted mind and an audience, bent on evil, that is best left alone to their own devices.
Children from such an unhealthy environment grow up to be adults that are invariably not liked or respected by society. The latter sees the person as having ‘loose’ morals and standards. The young girl who lives in a household where physical beauty is prized above all else, grows into an adult with a hidden sense of low esteem; she may crave the wrong type of attention and might become a loud and brash individual, lacking any substance of real character.
It is a vicious cycle – once one undertakes to traverse such a dangerous path, the far-flung consequences of such actions can be extreme and severe. There can be no turning back from such a road – just imminent, immense, engulfing darkness that is lying slyly in wait to take unholy possession of one’s body, mind and soul. It is akin to a downward spiral – it has no foreseeable end; only the gaping jaws of an abyss waiting for the inevitable capture – open jaws that lie waiting, waiting, waiting, just waiting for the thrill of the capture of one’s soul into a bottomless pit of unimaginable evil, darkness and horror.

“Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey” is a Netflix documentary series that explores the investigation into the murder of JonBenét Ramsey:
- Keep Your Babies Close: The nation is gripped by the murder of 6-year-old JonBenét, but the investigation is stalled by a botched crime scene and intense media scrutiny of her parents.
- Umbrella of Suspicion: The Boulder police and the city’s prosecutor are at odds over conflicting theories, but a legendary detective uncovers clues that shift the case.
- The Truth Is Going to Prevail: After the grand jury decides on the Ramseys’ case, suspicion falls on a pageant photographer. Years later, an email thread leads to a shocking arrest.
JonBenét Ramsey was strangled with a garrote made from a nylon cord and the broken handle of a paintbrush. The autopsy revealed a vaginal injury and evidence that the paintbrush was used for sexual assault. (Source: AI Overview from Google)

Discovery
On December 26, 1996, JonBenét Ramsey’s parents, John and Patsy, found their 6-year-old daughter missing from their Boulder, Colorado home. A ransom note demanding $118,000 was found on the kitchen stairs. Seven hours later, John found JonBenét’s body in the basement.
Investigation
The investigation lasted more than two years. The Boulder Police Department (BPD) believed the Ramseys were involved and staged a kidnapping. A grand jury heard evidence but did not recommend filing charges. However, the jury did vote to indict the Ramseys on child endangerment and obstruction of a murder investigation, but the prosecutor declined to prosecute.
False confession
In 2006, John Mark Karr, a former schoolteacher, was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand after confessing to the murder. However, DNA evidence did not match samples found on JonBenét’s body and Karr was released.
Ongoing investigation
The Boulder Police Department continues to work with the FBI, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, and other partners to solve the case. The BPD says they are committed to following up on every lead and are continuing to consult with DNA experts. (Source: AI Overview from Google)

A child needs to be taught what is Right, and what is ostensibly Wrong. A young child’s mind needs to be moulded to believe in the benefit of trying to live a life of good thoughts, good words and good deeds. Children need to actively imbibe these values – the latter form the very cornerstones of a good human being – a person worthy of respect and love.
The sooner one accepts the serious risks involved in this stark, horrific truth, the better it will be – believe me. Acceptance will bring about Change – not all that changes is for the worse. Change can happen for the betterment of Life in general too. Sometimes, it takes the swallowing of a bitter pill to allow such a drastic change to occur.
