You Raise Me Up
Sung by Josh Groban
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until You come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.
You raise me up to more than I can be.

You Raise Me Up
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“You Raise Me Up” is a song originally composed by the Norwegian-Irish duo Secret Garden. The music was written by Secret Garden’s Rolf Løvland, and the lyrics by Brendan Graham. After the song was performed early in 2002 by the Secret Garden and their invited lead singer, Brian Kennedy, the song only became a minor UK hit. The song has been recorded by more than a hundred other artists including American songwriter Josh Groban in 2003 and Irish boy band Westlife in 2005 whose versions were hits in their countries. Welsh singer Aled Jones and all-female Irish ensemble Celtic Woman have also recorded successful covers.

What is the history behind the song You Raise Me Up?
“You raise me up” is an incredible song written by Josh Groban, published in 2001. It was created to make the listener truly feel, grasp and believe in their inner spirituality and happiness. Josh Groban was raised observing the Episcopalian religion, a form of Christianity and belief in God. The song “You raise me up” convey a strong theme in God and the message of power and strength through faith. The song effectively portrays Josh Groban’s expression of faith and presents the influence of his Episcopalian religion in his lyrics.
I think this song can be interpreted in many different ways. For Josh Groban, it is a religious song, with god praising him up whenever he feels down. However, for those with no religious belief, this could be a love song, with people you love raising you up and giving you the support whenever you need it.
“EVERYTHING IS OKAY IN THE END.
IF IT’S NOT OKAY, THEN IT’S NOT THE END.“

There might be several other interpretations of this beautiful song, but I think of it in the following ways:
- The protagonist of this song is implying that when he feels bogged down with worries; when he feels burdened by Life’s many difficulties, pitfalls, and obstacles, he turns his eyes and his faith towards the Higher Being – God who is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent. By this statement, the implication simply is this – If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform – it is not for us to question His Ways. Nobody cares for us more than God Himself – the Creator of all living things on our beautiful Earth. Believe me, when I say that being able to withstand great problems with steadfastness, courage, and grace, makes us better and stronger people in the long run. It is God’s way of testing us. Some people face catastrophic, devastating, and debilitating problems – difficulties that are so huge, one feels that one will be devoured by the sheer enormity of these obstacles. But just as one feels that one is at the end of one’s tether, that’s when God steps in with his Healing Touch. It is He who “Raises us Up” to surmount the highest mountains; to successfully navigate stormy seas.
- In life, it is more important to be spiritual-minded rather than being religious – the latter implies following several man-made rituals but being spiritual is understanding the importance of being a good person who leads a good life without harming anyone – at least not purposefully, let’s say. A spiritual person models his/her attitudes, attributes, behaviour and very life in keeping with this latter philosophy firmly in mind. Being spiritual-minded is about understanding and accepting the role of an All-Powerful, Higher Authority in our lives – albeit unseen and intangible though this Presence is.
- Never underestimate the importance of Hope – it is a tiny ray of light that brings with it a sprinkling of positivity. It is Faith and Hope that keep us going – they are the crucial heart beats that keep us going forward when we feel that all is lost. And more than Faith and Hope, it is Love that is the most important of them all. On a more practical note, when the singer feels troubled and distressed, it is the silent and supportive presence of his family members, friend (s) &/or his lover who make him feel stronger, calmer and more at ease in the face of Life’s many disappointments and stresses.
- Finally, the lyrics of this song are an expression of never letting any person “put us down” by making us feel inferior, small, insignificant, and incompetent. Remember that such toxicity and negativity are only an expression of their own insecurities. It’s a way of diverting the other person’s attention from one’s own faults and behavioural deficits. Learn the importance of being kind to yourself; have confidence in your own capabilities – remember that you are already above such negative and mean-minded people. The latter know and understand this fact only too well hence their need to put another down. There is no mountain that is higher than what we can scale – if you can dream it, you can do it.
- There will always be a feasible solution to each problem – however grave and insurmountable it might seem. Believe in this truth.
- Have Faith – Tomorrow is a brand-new day with fresh opportunities and new beginnings. Every darkest cloud has a silver lining. Similarly, every problem has a solution – if you don’t see it, then look for it – sometimes, the solution is staring at us right in the face – we just didn’t notice it because we weren’t looking hard enough for it.
- We will never be totally alone in our problems and woes – there is always someone somewhere who cares; someone who is considerate, sympathetic and compassionate – it is that attentive person or loyal pet who will “raise us up” when we most need their comforting presence.
- Don’t believe me? Try to believe me, one way or another – it helps more than you will ever know. That’s all I can truly say.

Spirituality is the language of the Soul.

Last but not least, there is ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO CARES. YOU NEED TO BELIEVE IT, ESPECIALLY IN THE CHAOTIC WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN. It could be anyone – but most of all it is God Himself – believe it or not. Call Him by whatever name you want because it really doesn’t matter- the message remains the same.
“Who Cares?“

Who cares when the days are dreary, who cares when I’m tired and weary?
Jesus my Lord and Savior cares!
Who cares when I’m sad and lonely, Who cares when I’ve trouble only?
Jesus my Lord and Savior cares!
There’s not a dearer friend to me. He’ll lead me on till His face I see.
Who cares when my heart is aching, who cares when it’s nearly breaking?
Jesus my Lord and Savior cares.
Who cares when my friends forsake me, who cares when the storms o’ertake me?
Jesus my Lord and Savior cares!
Who cares when my hopes all crumble, who cares when I fall and stumble?
Jesus my Lord and Savior cares.
There’s not a dearer friend to me. He’ll lead me on till His face I see!
Who cares when I’m weak and ailing, who cares when my strength is failing?
Jesus my Lord and Savior cares!
